* Hosting Service Aligns with Exodus and Bell Canada; Oracle to Begin Hosting Web Sites Through Exodus
NEW YORK, NY -- In a move to create the industry's most comprehensive and reliable hosting service, Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL) announced today that Oracle Business OnLine(r), the world's leading e-business Internet application software hosting service, has selected British Telecom (BT), Exodus Communications(tm), Inc. (Nasdaq: EXDS) and Bell Canada as preferred service providers. These strategic relationships will enable Oracle Business OnLine to meet worldwide market demand for its highly scalable, secure, and reliable mission-critical applications hosting service.
Oracle Business OnLine plans to manage its customer relationships and host Oracle and ISV applications from affiliates' data centers. Oracle will procure server hardware from its preferred vendors, including Sun, H-P and Compaq, and application software as required by each Oracle Business OnLine customer. The infrastructure providers will furnish data center infrastructure, network connectivity and bandwidth for Oracle Business OnLine. Such essential infrastructure elements are costly to reproduce, and Oracle Business OnLine intends to partner with global leaders in this space. These relationships form the core of Oracle Business OnLine's virtual data center strategy for achieving scale and global market reach.
"Our customers look to Oracle Business OnLine for our proven strength in installing, running and managing world-class applications through a simple browser and network connection," said Gary Bloom, executive vice president, Oracle Corporation. "As the demand for our service grows, our plan is to uphold the highest possible standards of service reliability, security, and scalability. Our partnerships with best-in-class infrastructure companies is the logical way to do this."
Oracle Business OnLine to Host Web Sites Through Exodus
In addition to hosting and managing its customers' applications through Exodus' Internet data centers, Oracle Business OnLine will extend its offering to include Web hosting services through Exodus, thereby addressing the requirements of Oracle's many "dot com" customers as well as other Oracle customers that have hostable Web sites.
"Our relationship with Oracle signals an important move in the application service provider industry, as it aligns two significant and complementary offerings," said Ellen M. Hancock, president and CEO of Exodus. "Exodus has the largest global network of internet data centers (IDCs) and provides premier professional and managed services to ensure optimal performance for customers' Web sites. Oracle Business OnLine offers the experience in customer service, implementation, and of course, Web-based applications that allow everyone from dot com start-ups to major enterprises to achieve competitive advantage. This win-win combination is expected to increase both Exodus' and Oracle Business OnLine's ability to deliver the industry's most comprehensive solution."
Bell Nexxia Extends International Reach
Through its relationship in Canada with Bell Nexxia, Oracle Business OnLine plans to expand its service to the Canadian market by accessing Bell Nexxia's Web-hosting capability, network infrastructure, and Internet data center. Oracle will provide the server hardware and application software products and expertise in systems management and database administration for hosted applications.
"Our relationship with Oracle in the hosted applications space makes a lot of sense for us because it aligns our leading network services with a world class software company to offer an innovative new service to our customers. We are pleased to be working with Oracle, as leaders for Application Services Provisioning in the Canadian market," says Lisa Donnan, vice-president retail marketing at Bell Nexxia.
