WA: Premier confident oil slick will be mopped up

Western Australia's premier says he's confident a plan to stop an oil spill and mop
it up off the state's northwest coast will be successful.

COLIN BARNETT says the state's poised to assist in the clean up and environment recovery
.. if needed.

Mr BARNETT's told reporters in the unlikely event that weather changes and some of
the spill heads towards the WA coast .. contingency plans are being put in place.

He says they'll most likely involve the deployment of two small fixed wing aircraft
.. or the deployment of vessels to try and contain it on the ocean's surface.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority's been mopping up at the Montara development
.. about 250km off the Kimberley coast and 150km southeast of the Ashmore Reef.
