VIC:Brownlows for sale in Melbourne

MELBOURNE, Aug 9 AAP - After being purchased by a private bidder three years ago, the
first Australian Rules Brownlow Medal will go up for sale again this month.

The 1924 medal, won by Geelong player Edward `Carji' Greeves, will be auctioned on August 24.

Another Brownlow Medal, won by Richmond's Stan Judkins, will also be auctioned on the
same day in Melbourne.

The Greeves medal was sold by his daughter in 2008, but will go up for sale again this
month, with a pre-sale estimate by auctioneer Leski Auctions of $200,000 to $250,000.

Leski Auctions spokesman Charles Leski said Brownlow Medal sales were extremely rare.

"More Victoria Crosses have been offered for public sale than Brownlows, so to be able
to offer the first Brownlow is incredibly exciting," Mr Leski said in a statement.

"Two on the same day is indescribable."

The Brownlow Medal is awarded annually to the AFL's (formerly the VFL) best and fairest player.
