Vic: Prix bans look set to be lifted, says Walker
Australian Grand Prix chief RON WALKER says there may be a joint statement later tonight
with the Electrical Trades Union that clearly indicates all work bans will be lifted at
the race track constuction site in Melbourne.
He say he's hopeful work bans on corporate facilities at the track will end.
Mr WALKER says he's had what he describes as meaningful discussions with the Victorian
Secretary of the ETU, DEAN MIGHELL (pron: MILE).
He says he thinks the deadlock with the unions has been broken.
Mr WALKER also says he's come to an agreement with Mr MIGHELL to employ more apprentices
on the site.
The race has been placed in jeopardy by the bans imposed as part of unions' pursuit
of a 36-hour week and more pay.
The Grand Prix is due to go ahead between March 9-12.
